11 Stars That Have Insects Named After Them: Jennifer Lopez, Angelina Jolie and More

March 12, 2020

You may not have heard of treehoppers, brightly-colored insects with protuberances that look like horns or plant leaves, but you definitely know about Lady Gaga, and a graduate student is counting on the pop star’s fame to bring attention to the former.

Brendan Morris, who studies entomology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, has named a newly discovered treehopper species after Lady Gaga. “If there is going to be a Lady Gaga bug, it’s going to be a treehopper, because they’ve got these crazy horns, they have this wacky fashion sense about them,” Morris said about the Kaikaia gaga. “They’re unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.”

This isn’t the first time an entomologist has taken it upon themselves to name an insect after the “Stupid Love” singer – in 2012 a species of parasitoid wasp found in Thailand was christened Aleoides gaga. Check out some of the other insects named after celebrities below!
